FA Cup Wagers

The NFL playoffs start this weekend, and forgive me for not getting too excited about my potential three grand windfall. Whilst in theory I'm five wins away from that figure (Atlanta winning the Superbowl would be worth £1700 and a double with Alabama winning the National Championship on Monday would account for the rest), it would be the ultimate cinderella story for the Falcons to get it done.

The fact that they were a best priced 16/1 pre-season, yet available at 50/1 now despite making the playoffs illustrates the enormity of the task. While I think they have a great chance of toppling the Giants on Saturday, the prospect of road games against the Packers and Saints, not to mention the small matter of a Superbowl afterwards hardly fills me with confidence.

A more realistic chance of profits comes from this weekends FA Cup games. A nice little cup acca was one of the few high points of my recent trip to Brighton, so it would be rude not to have another little dabble on the third round.

I've gone for a decent acca on Everton, Spurs, Chelsea, Aston Villa, and Sheffield United which pays around the 7/4 mark with Coral. I've also gone for a medium sized single on 6/4 Wigan, who should have far too much class for Swindon, and a small punt on Fleetwood to topple neighbours Blackpool at 7/2.

But no amount of winnings from that lot will be able to erase the shocking mental image lodged in my brain thanks to this weeks Popbitch story on The Krankies. I'd like to remember wee Janette Krankie as the person who brought joy to my childhood television viewing with the jokes, the songs, and the custard pies. Not on all fours being spit roasted by two large penises.
